Management Team
Chairman: Charles Novotny
Charles Novotny is an engineer by profession and has over 30 years experience in the construction sector. As Chief Executive of Tarmac Heavy Building Materials UK, Charles’ last major task was to manage the integration of Wimpey Building Materials into Tarmac. Charles took over as Chairman in April 1998, succeeding Julian Vallance who had served in that capacity for ten years.
Managing Director: Alan Gardner
Alan joined Vallectric soon after leaving University. Initially his role was primarily administrative. This led to senior involvement with Vallectric to fill the administrative and support role previously occupied by Julian Vallance, then MD. Alan has accounting, computing and surveying skills as well as general managerial expertise and experience. He was promoted to Managing Director in April 1992.
Operations Director: Andy Ball
Andy first joined Vallectric in 1976 as a Projects Engineer with particular responsibility for Housing contracts. In 1988 he moved to Stephens Electrical Engineers as the Senior Estimating Engineer and progressed to Director of Estimating. In 1993 Andy returned to Vallectric as Business Manager for the Housing Division and was promoted to Operations Director in 2003. Andy has a wealth of industry related experience and qualifications.
Operations Director: Tremayne Vare
Tremayne joined Vallectric on leaving school and trained as an electrician before extending his experience to include all aspects of contract management; with two years as an estimator, a further two years as a surveyor, and then four years as a Contracts Engineer. In 1999 he was promoted to Contracts Manager and in April 2001 he was appointed Business Manager for Vallectric Building Services, Leeds. In this role he was instrumental in the development of mechanical services within the company and in recognition was promoted to Divisional Director in April 2007 and to Operations Director in October 2008.
Business Services Director: David Allen
David joined Vallectric in 1987 as Computer Manager. A graduate in mathematics, he had developed as a systems analyst and programmer in Vallances Ltd. He completed the process of the transfer and development of Vallectric’s systems and applications and accepted a wider role as Head of Management Services, which besides computer applications also embraced central personnel, quality and safety. Recognising the importance of support systems for both past and future performance he was promoted to Business Services Director in October 2008.
Regional Operations Director, South: Greg Slater
Greg first joined Vallectric in 1999 as the Southern Business Manager and was part of the team which help establish a successful public sector and social housing business for Vallectric in the south. In 2004 Greg moved from Vallectric, gaining further experience with other national M&E companies in a senior position. In 2009 Greg rejoined Vallectric as the Regional Operations Director, South to further develop Vallectric’s business presence in the South.
Business Manager, East Yorkshire & Lincolnshire: Steve Grundy
Steve joined Vallectric on leaving school in 1984 and trained as an Electrician before becoming an Estimator. After five years in the role, Steve began his career in contract management; initially in a combined estimating and engineering role, but then as a fully fledged Contract Engineer. In his twelve years in this role Steve, not only delivered an impressive track record of performance, but was instrumental in the development of customer relationships and opportunities. It was without hesitation that, on the retirement of his predecessor in December 2009, Steve was promoted to Business Manager for the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region.
Finance Manager: Nigel lynn
Nigel joined Vallectric in October 1996 from Wolseley Centres where he was the management accountant. He qualified as a management accountant while working for a metalwork fabrication company.
Chief Surveyor: Andy Bowers
Andy, left university in 1992 with an HND in Building (Quantity Surveying) Services and started his career at Haden Young. In 1993 he joined Vallectric as Quantity Surveyor to the Hull branch. In 1998 his role expanded to include mechanical and electrical projects for the Northern Business Services division, and in 2002 he was promoted to Senior Surveyor with responsibility for a team of Quantity Surveyors. All the while, Andy continued to develop his professional skills and achieved an Advanced Diploma and Professional Certificate in Cost Management of Building Engineering. In 2008 Andy was promoted to Chief Surveyor with responsibility for all surveying issues for the company.
Senior Estimating Manager: Mark Louth
Mark joined Vallectric on leaving school in 1983 and trained as an electrician. On qualification he embraced, first, site supervisory and then, site management roles. It was a natural progression, when in 1996 he became Planning Engineer for the Business Services division. In 1998, utilising his considerable site experience, he became an Estimating Engineer and was promoted, first to Senior Estimating Engineer and then in 2006 to Senior Estimating Manager. He now has responsibility for a team of Mechanical and Electrical Estimating Engineers, overseeing both development and quality, as well as conducting tender negotiation in association with the Business Manager.
Business Development Manager: David Foster
David has a wealth of experience in the mechanical and electrical industry, both home and overseas. Having joined Vallectric in 2009 his role is to actively expand the business into a number of complimenatary areas.
